Disaster Relief

A little known fact about the Philippines! This country ranks second in the world (behind Vanuatu) for natural disasters. Typhoons and flooding are both regular events, as well as earthquakes and fires. You name it, we’ve got it.

Dan has extensive training in Search and Rescue, including specialized training for disaster situations. He also has a wide background in carpentry and construction, which has come in extremely handy after the crucial phase of rescue has passed, and recovery and reconstruction commences.

When Typhoon Pablo hit Mindanao in December 2012, Dan was one of the first rescuers to reach the disaster region, and once rebuilding began to wind down and wrap up, was one of the last to leave. With a large team of other missionaries, countless weekends were spent rebuilding a damaged church, all while forming lifelong friendships and showing the love of Christ to those affected. We now return to the area regularly to host outreaches, and spend time with our new “family”.

We are always in “standby mode”, as another natural (or in some cases man made) disaster always seems to be waiting around the corner, whether in our city, on our island, or on a neighboring island.
